Veteran NBA star Marreese Speights has put to paper for Orlando Magic.
Orlando Magic announced on Thursday that Marreese will be going the club after the contract was signed. Speights expressed his delight after the deal was announced as this brings him closer to his home city Gainesville. The city where he won his first national title in 2007.
“It is an amazing feeling and I cannot really explain it with words because that wouldn’t do it justice. I feel blessed and I am happy to be here. I didn’t really think I’ll get a chance to play for a team in my home town.”
More Players For Orlando Magic
The team also signed another veteran player Arron Afflalo and Khem Birch.
The signing of Speights gives Orlando Magic a player that is proven at the big stage and who is regarded as one of the best reserve players in the last few years in the NBA. He featured for the LA Clippers last season after taking home a championship ring with Golden State Warriors two seasons earlier:
This would be his 10th season in the NBA and he will most likely serve as a reserve to Nikola Vucevic alongside Bismarck Biyombo.
However, his move gives Orlando Magic much more than a tested backup player as he has amazing 3 points shooting ability. He scored a total of 103 points from his 3 pointer shots last season and averaged 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds all season for the Clippers.
“I have no control over what happens but I’ll keep working to give my best and we will see how it goes.”
